The Garissa attack in northern Kenya left 148 dead. Among the victims, 142 students. In the aftermath of this Shebab Islamist attack on the city’s University, a unanimous condemnation reaction from the international community was expected.
The Kenyan people expected solidarity in these moments of pain.
Personally, I was expecting a march that would mobilize all those who would like to say no to terrorism and who would gather in Nairobi several dozens of European and African heads of state.
Do you still remember? After the terrorist attack on the French weekly Charlie Hebdo and on the hyper-hide supermarket Porte de Vincennes, it took only 48 hours for the hashtag #JeSuisCharlie to be used by millions on twitter to do without sentencing messages.
Subsequently, heads of state of the “ Free World “, European and African, made the trip from Paris to beat the pavement at the head of a march that has gathered more than a million people.
On January 11, 2015, they said they were walking in solidarity with France because of the values it carries.
It was at a time when Boko Haram was massacring hundreds of innocent villagers in the deafening silence of the international media.
I would like to say that Kenya also has values that it proudly wears. For Africa, it is a country that has been at the forefront of decolonization. And in these times of pain, the world should show him his solidarity.

But how many deaths does it take for the world, beyond the Vatican, to be moved by a tragedy unfolding on the Black Continent?
How many migrants must drown in the Mediterranean so that Europe can put in place adequate means to rescue them rather than let them die in the hands of greedy traffickers?
These are certainly questions that require an answer. But the fundamental question that I ask today to the brave heads of state of the African continent: How much does it cost you to parade in the streets of Paris to support the former colonial power and how much it would cost you to go to a African capital to present your condolences to brothers experienced by the blind terror of man?
The day the French president summoned dozens of African heads of state to Paris to adopt a strategy against jihadists in Africa, there was a president who refused to go there: Paul Kagame from Rwanda.
Of course, Kagame is the man who refuses to receive lessons from anyone on how to run his country and protect his country. And on occasion, he wondered why African heads of state should go to receive lessons from a French president on how to protect their sovereignty.
In any case, the feeling that animates me here is a feeling of spite. I’m sorry that those who do not move a finger when their neighbor’s house burns.
And here I remember the tirade that made me Nigerian President Mahamadou Issouffou when I asked him during an interview what he does to prevent Boko Haram from burning his country.
He answered me with a handful: “When the beard of the neighbor catches fire, it makes help to extinguish it otherwise it will soon be your turn to burn.”
He kept his word, the Nigerian president. Today, his army is fighting alongside the Chadian army in Nigeria to try to stop the death march of Boko Haram which has conquered whole swathes in Nigeria.
